Why I love outdoor family photography sessions versus a studio session ~Guevara Family~

When you have little children or larger groups of people to photograph, outdoor family photography sessions are just so much better.

When I am photographing clients for an outdoor family photography session, it takes on a very storytelling feeling. I am capturing moments in time, genuine moments between family members. When I photograph my clients in my Charlottesville studio, it leans towards very posed, formal sessions. It’s very hard to photograph non posed sessions in a studio because of the limitations of space and the sterile surrounding’s. I often get clients who ask which session should they book, especially when it comes to a maternity session. I am always of the mind to get outside.

Whenever there are toddlers or children involved, I definitely prefer the let’s get them outside scenario. Being outside gives children the freedom to run and play and be more of themselves, making it easier to capture more of there genuine personalities versus forcing them to sit and pose and say cheese in the studio.  I love how being outside makes their natural personalities shine. Capturing that is so much easier outdoors then inside.

This particular session was photographed at the Boars Head Inn in Charlottesville, which is one of my favorite locations for offering a variety of looks for all seasons!  Outdoor photography sessions allow for a variety of backdrops due to the ability to just walk to a new location. Inside my studio, I am very limited in moving people to a new location along with limited backdrop choices.
