The Quiet House People always ask if my house is The Quiet House

People always ask if my house is loud because I photograph babies all day.

Ironically...

It's usually very quiet.

My kids are grown, so after a session ends, I come home to silence. I edit while the dog sleeps nearby and my husband asks how many babies I got to snuggle that day.

It's funny how my job fills my heart with tiny voices while my own house has become so peaceful.

Life has a way of changing before you even realize it.
Nobody Needs Another Perfect Baby Picture I love Nobody Needs Another Perfect Baby Picture

I love a beautiful newborn portrait.

Obviously.

But I don't think your gallery needs to be 30 photographs of your baby looking peacefully at the camera.

Give me the weird little faces.

Give me the clenched fists.

Give me the baby who looks mildly offended.

Give me the feet.

Give me the profile.

Give me the photograph where they're making the exact face their dad makes when he's annoyed.

Give me the one that makes you laugh.

Because when you look at these photographs years from now, I don't think you're going to need proof that your baby was beautiful.

You already knew that.

I think you're going to want proof that they were themselves.

Even then.
Confession… Can I tell you something? I absolu Confession...

Can I tell you something?

I absolutely talk to babies.

Not baby talk.

Real conversations.

I'll spend an entire session telling your newborn about the weather, asking if they slept well, explaining what we're doing next, or complimenting their cheeks.

Do they understand me?

Probably not.

Does it make me smile?

Every single time
The second baby is always interesting. The first The second baby is always interesting.

The first baby gets the full experience.

You read the books.

You wash everything three times.

You carefully organize the nursery.

You sterilize things that absolutely did not need to be sterilized.

By the second baby, you're like...

"Where's the pacifier?"

"Is that clean?"

"Probably."

And somehow, you're just as completely in love.

Maybe more.

Because now you know.

You know how fast it goes.

You know that the newborn who currently seems to sleep all day will eventually be running through your house.

You know those tiny clothes won't fit for long.

And you know that even though you've done this before, this baby is completely, wonderfully different.

I love photographing second babies.

There is usually a little less perfection.

And a whole lot more confidence.
Newborn sessions are a little weird. We spend a r Newborn sessions are a little weird.

We spend a ridiculous amount of time talking about poop.

We celebrate burps.

We negotiate with babies who have absolutely no interest in our plans.

We all stand around staring at a sleeping infant like we've just witnessed a miracle.

Someone inevitably says, "How are they sleeping through this?"

And I am usually thinking, please don't say that out loud.

Then, somehow, in between all of that, we make these beautiful photographs.

I think that's one of my favorite things about newborn photography.

It looks very calm in the finished gallery.

The actual experience?

Much more chaotic.

And honestly, I wouldn't want it any other way.
To the mom recovering from a C-section who's been To the mom recovering from a C-section who's been wondering if a studio session is even realistic right now:

It is. But not in a push-through-it kind of way.

My sessions are paced around where you actually are. If you need to sit, you sit. If you need a break, we take one. There is no rushing, no timeline pressure, no expectation that you should be feeling like yourself yet.

Six days postpartum after a C-section is not the time to be sprinting out the door with a full family dressed and ready. We work around that - not in spite of it.

If you've been waiting until you feel 'ready,' send me a message. We'll figure out the timing together.
I Still Get Nervous After all these years… I s I Still Get Nervous

After all these years...

I still get a tiny knot in my stomach before every newborn session.

Not because I don't know what I'm doing.

Because every family has trusted me with something irreplaceable.

Those first days.

Those tiny details.

Their brand new baby.

That trust is never something I take for granted.
My Favorite Sound It's not the camera shutter. I My Favorite Sound

It's not the camera shutter.

It's not parents saying, "These are beautiful."

It's that first little newborn sigh when they finally settle into a deep sleep.

If you've ever had a newborn, you know exactly the sound I'm talking about.

That tiny exhale.

Every single time, I smile.
